Joining
Redwood Hills Pony Club...
 |
Thank
you for your interest in our Pony club. You and your child should learn as much as you
can before considering joining us. We are just one of over 600
clubs in the nation affiliated with the United States Pony Club,
Inc.
First, look over this website and read our Parent's
Guide to Redwood Hills Pony Club. Also, please check out our regional Mid-Cal Pony
Club website (www.midcal.ponyclub.org)
and the national United States Pony Club (USPC) website (www.ponyclub.org).
These websites will give you a good overview of club activities,
the potential types of experiences for members, and a sense of
the level of commitment that is expected.

Kids who join Pony Club are
– for the most part – horse nuts. They are interested in
acquiring more horsemanship skills and have typically been
taking riding lessons for more than a year. Most members
continue to take weekly lessons in addition to those provided at
Pony Club meetings. Members also study independently to prepare
for periodic rating tests.
Meetings are usually from
8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd
Saturdays of the month, from September through June. Meetings
include a mounted lesson, a dismounted lesson about horse
management, and the completion of barn chores. Summer meetings
are not held.
Pony Club is essentially a
co-op. Therefore, membership requires parent participation.
Parents must be available on occasional Saturday mornings to
serve as a “Parent-in-Charge” or attend parent meetings.
Also, parents must have enough time and interest to do one of
the jobs that maintains and supports the Club (i.e. organizing
and helping with club events, maintaining the club room and
equipment, etc.).
We have about 20 members in
our club and also maintain a waiting list. New members are
enrolled in January, and occasionally in September.
After
you have learned more about us – and if you would like to be
placed on the waiting list – please submit a Membership
Application Form. Eventually we will make arrangements
for you and your child to visit and observe one of our meetings.
Since dues and fees are non-refundable, we make every effort to
make sure that potential members are a good fit for our club
before we invite them to join.
2008 dues and fees for new
members = $405
Please
feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
